Apple is in town...
Walking around downtown San Francisco you can't help but notice there are a lot of geeks in town, two large annual conferences and all. To add to this Apple have a presence on every street corner. If it's not iPod ads in the underground BART system, then it's a gigantic store on Market street. Or alternatively much like their recent TV ad there are also series of bill posters...

But you need to look a little more closely to notice the subtle glitch with this collection

This can't be good for business... Or the government.
On a lighter note though, walking around Washington square for dinner one night we found this impromptu and positively loopy brass band from UC Berkeley giving performances on random street corners. The were just there for a set, then they grabbed their gear and they were off to the next corner or intersection, their music was fantastic!

Welcome to the United States
Day one.
I arrived here before I left Sydney and to boot, today seems to be right in the middle of the San Francisco silly season. All hosted in this city are the Pride Parade, similar I guess to the Mardi Gras in Sydney, Java One and of course Apple's WWDC... and it's hard to escape the presence of any of these. Market street is lined with rainbow flags... and powerbooks are flashed at every coffee joint. But today was free to explore some of this hilly city. First off Daniel (my roomie for WWDC) and I explored Civic Centre which had an assortment of market booths that sold everything from incense to political agendas.

Daniel was also nice enough to guide me on a extended walking tour of most districts of San Francisco... This is Lombard street from afar.

and this is the Trans-America Building in the palm of my hand...

Pre-WWDC Sydney Dinner
Last night was the Pre-WWDC dinner, hosted by the Apple University Consortium. It was my first visit to the inside of a Hard Rock Café... although I bought an undersized t-shirt once from the Tokyo gift store. It was, (I am told) a befitting introduction to americana and particularly American style gourmet.
