Would you like a passport with that visa?
Finally, after months of waiting for the paperwork, making extra appointments and sitting around for hours today I have my student visa. The strange thing is that the visa bundle is larger than the passport it is stapled in. The visa "interview" was hardly that, being only a few questions amounting to no more than the sort of conversation you'd expect to make with any other random stranger interested in your travels. All in all, I'm thankful that I haven't experienced any major difficulties to date. Even so, by the end of today I was left with a sense that I have somehow passed my first test. I am also closer to understanding the character Xavier in the French film l'auberge espagnole. So now with all this stuff out of the way, I guess it's full steam ahead!
