All Quiet in Santa Cruz

run.jpg
Went for a run into town yesterday, in this pic can you see the shoreline? Ran there from campus. Found these awesome sounding guys on the way...

Transpacific Seminar

trans-pac.jpg
Today I achieved my first transpacific on-demand Seminar broadcast. Sorry, I'm not touring anywhere. I got the end-of-term rush to deal with. I used it to stream a practice of my Programming Languages presentation due this Tuesday. I think that Seminar can double as a presentation feedback tool!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay This ain't no Macy's parade, but it's where the crowds were this morning in Cruz. Out cycling, running, walking the dog. Enjoying the sunshine and cool, not freezing weather. A good break, and some needed exercise. It was the first time I've had the chance to ride my bike all the way down the mountain to the ocean... and back. Got some fresh food, since everything is closed up here. And now for my next trick! Get my programming languages presentation together for Tuesday!

Looking from Westcliff back to the boardwalk (left). Paying homage to surfing (right), hey everyone needs a hobby. Cycling, jogging and surfing are religions in Santa Cruz.
With most folks gone last night, Allesandro and I headed to the wharf to find some nice food, there were people out... but late it becomes eerily quite.

Seminar Fun

seminarFun.jpg
I have been hanging out for this for the last six weeks. My professor for multimedia has accepted my proposal for continuing to work on Seminar. Pity there are only 4 weeks to go in the term. I would have like some more time to try and do the stuff I have conjured up. Here I am toying around a bit with it while watching on my large display the U2-Apple-iPod single "Vertigo" at full screen and frame-rate, while running Seminar. I am told i need even better performance from the screen capture for people to really start using Seminar.

24? Are you sure?

Twenty-Four is an exciting age. You're not a kid, you're not tied down either. Your actions are scrutinised, yet there is the expectation that you make good decisions...
It's only been a few weeks, but I'm certain that coming to Santa Cruz was one of these. I met up with some friends (yes, on a school night) to chillax'n'relax at 99 Bottles in downtown Santa Cruz. Wednesdays are trivia night and as a team we put up a gallant effort. I love cheesecake, and so I was surprised to find this cheesecake had a base made from Oreos... how American! The other was a "Signature black chocolate cake".

I received the most original set of birthday cards! The best-of-the-show were... a hand made pocket-protector, complete with shirt pocket. While another was a Silhouette-kangaroo holding an iPod in the style of the iPod commercials. Seems like we all enjoy toying with Photoshop!

Election 2004

election04.jpg
I found that on the whole Americans are more politically motivated than Aussies. No-where more so than here in Santa Cruz, so I suspect many were glued to their sets to see this election through. This picture could therefore have been taken anywhere in the States tonight.

I soon headed to the Del-Mar for some entertainment... With the Republicans out in front, maybe on this night this sign should have read "Fear and Loathing in Santa Cruz"?
